This morning the students presented their PowerPoints over clouds.
The students each took turns comming up to the computer and giving
their presentation. The students did a pretty good job with this. They
showed the rest of the class what they had been working on, and
explained the reason why they did the things that they did.

During Social Studies today, we watched a United Streaming video. 
United Streaming is a website that teachers can access to show
educational videos from the Discover Channel. We watched a video
on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The students were to
watch the video and take notes in their journals about what they
learned.

Today's technology wasn't anything special. We used the PowerPoint
and television combination for the students to do their Target the 
Question. Again, this is a routine that the students do everyday to
warm their minds up and get ready for math.

Today we went as a class to the computer lab. The students were to 
use a math program called Larson's Math.  The students have been using this program all year long and knew exactly how to access the program. 
The program is a fun and interactive way for the students to learn 
math concepts such as addition, subtraction, skip counting etc.

Another form of technology that my students used was PowerPoint.
The students actually created their own PowerPoints on the 
information that they learned about clouds. Some of these came 
out pretty good, and others did not. I tried to instill in their 
minds the concept of 6x6. This means that the slide in a
PowerPoint has no more than 6 lines and 6 words per line. Some
of the students got this, and others did not.

These next 8 posts will be short and sweet.
     1 element of technology that my students used was kidspiration. 
This program enabled the students to create flow charts. The 
students used these flow charts to classify clouds and what the 
different kinds of clounds meant as far as weather. This was a neat idea.

Tech 2

So today I did something that I haven't seen modeled in the classroom. 
Today I read my students an e-book. I found the story that I 
wanted to read to the students online.  The story was Drippy the Raindrop.
It was a cute story about a raindrop going through the stages of the water cycle.

The students seemed to bennefit from this method of storytelling
because they weren't constantly worried about what the pictures
looked like. Since the computer is hooked up to the TV, all of the
students were able to see exactly what I was reading and the pictures
that went along with it.

I think I will continue to use this method whenever possible as it seemed to be effective.

First Blog

I know that I am a little late at getting this thing started, but life has been crazy. It's not less crazy right now, but I know that I need to get started on this.

First, let me give you a little background of my school. I am at Mc Roberts Elementary in Katy ISD. My school is in the northern section of Katy. This being said, my students don't necessarily have as much access to different technology resources as their counterparts do further south. I am currently in a 2nd grade classroom that has 3 computers (one is hooked up to the TV). Also in my room we have an overhead projector. My class usually goes to the computer lab during math every Thursday. The students seem to love this as well as benefit from it.

Today I used technology in the form of PowerPoint. The 2nd grade team has put together a PowerPoint presentation that has the students’ “Target the Question” information in it. The only downside to this is that I had to use two computers to do it. The first computer is attached to the TV so I used that one to show the problem’s information. The second one I used to display the actual question. The second computer only has a 15” monitor attached to it and is not as visible to all of the students. To remedy this, I simply read the question to the class.

Anyway, I plan to use technology in almost every lesson that I do, and that means plenty more posts to come soon.
